The Soviet replenishment force is structured primarily to support the peacetime operations of the fleet, which it does effectively, rather than to support extended combat operations as in the West Enough naval logistic ships and naval-subordinated merchant ships are available to sustain large-scale noncombat operations. During exercises and crisis situations, the Soviets have demonstrated the capability to provide supplies for large numbers of warships for periods of up to 45 days...
